You have questions, we have answers

General Questions

  • Folia Health is a health tracking app that aims to help people with chronic conditions transform lived health experiences into valuable structured data insights to support research (if you choose to participate) and personalized care by understanding subtle changes in symptoms, treatments, and overall wellbeing.

Founded by family caregivers, our mission is to build a platform where this traditionally underutilized data can instead help to better understand future needs and treatment for rare and chronic conditions.

  • Depending on your mobile device, you can find the app in the App Store or in the Android store. Bonus if you leave us a review!

  • Folia is and always will be free to the user. When you sign up independent of one of our paid research studies, you can use the code TRACKTODAY.

  • Folia is condition agnostic, meaning anyone with any condition can configure and use Folia to track exactly what they need to.

We do have several conditions with a more comprehensive onboarding, which makes it a little bit faster to get started. These include:

    • Lupus

    • Eczema / Atopic dermatitis

    • IgA Nephropathy

    • Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH)

    • Sickle Cell Disease

That said, if you’re condition is not listed above, feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] or through our in-app messenger after signing up, and we’re happy to help you set up your account!

  • No! The goal of Folia is to help everyone, both with or without an official diagnosis. In fact, we have a large number of individuals on a diagnostic odyssey. They are using Folia to track their symptoms and report changes to their doctor as they work together to find a diagnosis. Read about one user’s story with an autoimmune diagnostic journey here.

Tracking with the Folia app

  • The primary goal of Folia is to help you quickly capture the observations that you make every day in 90 seconds or less. You have full control over the questions that you want to answer, and the style in which they are asked - Yes/No, scale of 0-5, count, or tags. Over just a few weeks of using Folia, you’ll build a comprehensive database of what we call “home-reported outcomes.”

As you continue to use Folia, you’ll build a source of truth for your health so you always have the most important information about your health at your fingertips.

For those who also want to contribute to research, we have paid research programs and our Data Dividends program, both of which are opportunities to get paid for using Folia.

  • You can bring this information to your next appointment using the Appointment Guide – a report on your Folia data that we developed alongside doctors and nurses. We did this to make sure it’s helpful in the context of the clinic. What you track really matters – we’ve already heard from users who have made changes to their treatment plans based on the information that they’ve tracked in Folia.

Reach out to [email protected] or through our in-app messenger if you need a different type of report to bring to your care team!

Data + Folia – All You Need to Know

  • At Folia, we are committed to understanding every aspect of a disease or condition, and one way to do that is through research. With your permission, we share de-identified and aggregated data insights for research. This means that there are never any names, email addresses, phone numbers, or other personally-identifiable information included in the data insights that we share for research.

Your data is your own, and we want to respect your privacy. Therefore, data sharing is fully optional, and we will never use your data for our insights without your consent.

  • We understand that you are entrusting us with very personal and sensitive information during some of the most stressful and difficult times in your lives. So we have put a lot of effort into:

Exceeding the standards legislated under HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).

Limiting data access only to employees who require it to perform their job responsibilities.

Using industry best practices such as multi-factor authentication, business associate agreements (BAAs) with vendors (such as email, data storage, etc.), virtual private networks (VPNs), etc. to ensure our systems are as secure as possible.

  • In light of recent developments with the Supreme Court and the overturning of Roe v. Wade, we want to assure you that any data related to a menstrual cycle and other women’s health is your private and confidential knowledge, and it will be protected.

Data Dividends

  • It’s plain and simple. We believe you should be compensated for contributing your data to research.

  • When your research sharing settings are turned on, your data can be contributed to internal research. It is fully anonymized. If you qualify for a paid research study and are interested in joining, you will go through a separate consent process for that study in particular.

  • You can earn up to $4 a month ($48 a year), and you will get paid out on a quarterly basis (January, April, July, October). In order to qualify for this, you must:

    • Make sure your Research Sharing settings are turned on

    • Log into your Folia account to track a treatment, symptom, or flare at least once a week

    • You can either actively track your same-day observations, or you can "multi-day track" a range of days at once

We know life gets busy, so we'll give you one bonus week a month!
